Character Bio
Sir James Lester is a government troubleshooter who works as a go between for the ARC and the Home Office. Originally he answered directly to 'the minister' (presumably the Home Secretary), but now he also has to answer to Philip Burton.
At first Lester was very reluctant to be involved with anomalies and he clashed frequently with the team, especially Cutter. As time went on though he became more protective of the project and the team, even allowing a homeless Connor to stay in his city flat. Although he's a career civil servant who seems to prefer to stay in the office, he isn't adverse to facing down danger if need be. The main weapon in his arsenal though is sarcasm, one that he uses frequently, often to dispel tense situations.
Lester is the perfect civil servant who knows how to wield his power to good effect to help the ARC and the team. However, he doesn't appear to trust Philip Burton, the new private owner of the ARC in series 4 and has on several occasions acted behind Philip's back, specifically to keep the presence of Emily Merchant from him and persuading him to let Abby and Connor remain on the team.
